Common symptoms to be worried about

Self-examination of the breast is a preliminary screening test in an attempt to find any abnormalities in the breast. It is a simple yet important routine test that can be done by every woman on a regular basis. This does not require the assistance of a doctor or any equipment. Since the 1950s, there have been groups actively teaching women about self-examining their breasts although many studies show BSE in poor light. This was mostly because the studies provide no significant evidence that it has saved lives. As a routine practice, doctors still prescribe BSE as a preliminary screening test to detect breast cancer in its early stages.

There are different methods of self-examining the breast. They mostly include –

  1. Visual examination of the breasts to look for any change in the size, shape or symmetry of the breasts, and
  2. Physical examination of the breasts using your hands to find any abnormal texture or hardening of the breasts
